According to data included in a document from the French Embassy in Rabat, as part of a press file about President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Rabat today, is the first destination for Moroccan students to study abroad, as there are more than 45,000 Moroccan students in France in the year 2022-2023. Morocco is considered the first source of foreign students in France (11% of the total). This number increased by +13% during the period 2017-2022. Moroccan students study in large numbers in all higher education institutions in France, and they particularly excel in engineering and business faculties.

In engineering faculties, there were more than 6,000 Moroccan students (compared to less than 3,000 Chinese students, the second largest group) in 2022, an increase of +26% over the period 2017-2022.

In business schools, Morocco is the second country in terms of the number of foreign students, slightly ahead of China (8,337 Chinese students in 2017-2023 compared to 8,058 Moroccan students). The Moroccan presence in business schools witnessed significant growth, increasing by 95% between 2017 and 2022.

At the level of French higher education institutions in Morocco, since 2013, many French higher education institutions have been established in Morocco. The “Africa Sup” network includes many institutions already established in Morocco, such as ESSEC Rabat, the Central School of Casablanca, EM of Casablanca, EMINES, EIGSI-Casablanca, and the School of Arts and Professions of Rabat. The two countries also have 280 agreements to grant dual degrees between French and Moroccan institutions.
