In Chile, the case has been making headlines for ten days already… The case of this 52-year-old Jura man accused of serial pedophile acts has just taken a major turn. According to our information, the fifty-year-old was extradited to on October 25, then taken to Lons-le-Saunier to be indicted for rape, sexual assault and corruption against around ten minor victims.

According to a source close to the case, these young boys and girls seemed to belong to his more or less close circle. The fifty-year-old is said to have attacked these victims between 2015 and 2023 while he was residing in the Jura, particularly in the small village of Tassenières, 400 inhabitants.

Located and arrested in Chile in March 2024

The accused left Franche-Comté in June 2023 to escape his responsibilities, assure the Chilean media, while the judicial noose tightened around him. The man obviously hoped to rebuild a new life 12,000 kilometers away, protected by relative anonymity. But two months later, his legal troubles in turn crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the form of an Interpol red notice, issued following the issue of an international arrest warrant.

In March 2024, Chilean authorities finally located and then arrested the suspect in La Serena, a seaside resort located in the north of the country. The Jura man had just married a Chilean woman and had started selling pizzas.

Immediately placed in pre-trial detention in France

The extradition request made by France was accepted by the Supreme Court of Santiago on August 9. Heard during a hearing, the accused denied the facts, denouncing a “plot” fomented by the parents of the victims.

Entrusted to the French authorities, the fifty-year-old ended up returning to his native country this Friday. A freedom and detention judge at the court, in the region, immediately ordered his placement in pre-trial detention. It was therefore under duress that this individual was presented, this Saturday afternoon, to the investigating judge in charge of the case.

“He will explain himself later”

The interrogation was cut short. “My client has remained silent”, indicates his lawyer Me Marjorie Weiermann, contacted by The Republican East“but he will explain himself later when he is summoned again by the investigating magistrate”.

As always in such cases, a psychiatric assessment and a psychological assessment will be carried out soon. At this stage of the procedure, the fifty-year-old is presumed innocent, but will remain incarcerated pending future interrogations and possible additional investigative actions. He faces the maximum sentence of twenty years in prison.
