the essential
The US Revel club is well known here. But did you know that it offers its members a new kind of activity? Christopher Magalhães, its host, introduces him to us.
Friday, 7 p.m., a small group of regulars meets in front of the Roger Sudre room for their weekly meeting. They are welcomed by Christopher Magalhães for their fit football session. For an hour, they will carry out a series of varied physical exercises using a ball. The facilitator explains: “The practitioners are encouraged to work on their physical fitness through choreography, muscle strengthening workshops and cardio training exercises, all to music.” This therefore allows everyone to strengthen their muscular, respiratory and cardiovascular capacities. Fit football is also a practice which is aimed at all genders and all ages and is intended to be “open to a wider audience” he adds.
Christopher Magalhães tells us about the origins of the project: “Fit football is an initiative that was launched by the federation 5 or 6 years ago”. The facilitator then explains what brought him to this new discipline: “I have a football instructor’s certificate and a BJEPS Physical Activities for All. In addition to these diplomas, I followed training at Clairefontaine on specific content of fit football”.
A practice to develop
First a fit football facilitator in the town of Labruguière in Tarn, he then presented this project to the president of US Revel, Didier Roques.
“Some practitioners from Labruguière followed me,” he rejoices, which therefore contributed to the establishment of a fit football section within the Revel football club.
However, the practice of fit football in Revel still needs to be developed, particularly in terms of visibility: “At the beginning we didn’t do a lot of publicity, we were waiting to see how it would go,” confides Magalhães before continuing, Memberships were mainly made through former practitioners of Labruguière and word of mouth. However, the facilitator intends to develop the section by advertising on the social networks of the US Revel and the municipality or through other media. It reaffirms its objective: “Offer more slots to attract more members”.
The practitioners are delighted to be able to benefit from this initiative. Unanimously attracted, in their own words, by “the good humor and good understanding” which developed throughout the sessions. One of them confides: “It’s accessible to everyone, sporty or not.” Another adds: “The exercises are adapted according to our physical form”. They unanimously conclude: “to try it is to adopt it”.
