Vientiane (VNA) – Vietnam highly values its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Armenia, said Vice Speaker of the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Thanh during a meeting on October 19 in Vientiane with his Armenian counterpart, head of the parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Armenia, Hakob Arshakyan.
This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 45th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-45), held from October 17 to 19 in Vientiane.
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the NA of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan affirmed that Armenia always attaches great importance to its relations with Vietnam and wishes to continue deepening them. He reiterated the hope that the Vietnamese NA would soon establish a Vietnam-Armenia Friendship Parliamentarians Group to strengthen exchanges between the two legislative bodies.
Furthermore, he suggested establishing a representative agency in each country, examining a visa waiver mechanism between the two nations, and establishing a direct air link to strengthen delegation exchanges and cooperation in trade, investment and tourism.
NA Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh welcomed the progress in bilateral economic and trade cooperation thanks to the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union, of which Armenia is a member. . Bilateral trade increased from $62.6 million in 2022 to $342 million in 2023, an increase of 516%.
Nguyen Thi Thanh proposed to the two parties to strengthen the exchange of delegations through the channels of the Party, the government and the NA. She expressed the wish to welcome the President of the NA of Armenia for an official visit to Vietnam in November 2024. According to her, this visit will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the two NAs, as well as traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
On this occasion, Nguyen Thi Thanh also extended an invitation to Hakob Arshakyan to pay an official visit to Vietnam in the near future. -VNA
