At the table Euro, Alexis Lebrun particularly shines, certain to win two medals. On the other hand, his younger brother, Félix, eliminated in singles, could well be sanctioned and deprived of the doubles final because of a blood attack.

This Saturday in Austria at the European Table Tennis Championships, the Lebrun brothers reached the final of the men’s doubles after dominating the Austrian Maciej Kolodziejczyk and the Moldovan Vladislav Ursu in the semi-final with a clear score of 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-3). This Sunday, the French will face the Swedes Truls Moregard and Anton Kallberg (kick-off at 4:10 p.m.) for the continental crown. However, against all expectations, the youngest of the siblings, Félix, could well be sanctioned and deprived of this meeting. Eliminated in singles at the quarter-final stage, he lost his nerve.

While he had the match in hand, Félix Lebrun lost three consecutive sets to lose 3-4 against the German Benedikt Duda (5-11, 4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11- 6, 16-14, 11-6). A scenario making mad with rage the double bronze medalist of the 2024 Olympic Games who threw his racket in the Linz hall. His apologies did not soften the referees who sent him a red card which the direct consequence could be his exclusion from the doubles final. A sword of Damocles therefore doubly tarnishing the day of the French table tennis player whose older brother can boast of remaining in the race on all counts.

Alexis Lebrun double medalist, Félix deprived of the final?

The French champion dominated the German Dang Qiu, reigning European champion, in the quarter-final (7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6, 13-11). The latter saved three match points before bowing and not making the eldest Lebrun relive a nightmare scenario reminiscent of that experienced by his brother. In the semi-final, Alexis Lebrun will face one of his future opponents in the doubles final, the Swede Truls Moregard (kick-off at 12:10 p.m.). The 21-year-old will therefore leave these European Championships with two medals around his neckincluding a very first on an individual level at a Euro.

In the women’s draw, Jia Nan Yuan suffered the law of the Spaniard Maria Xiao in the quarter-final (13-15, 11-8, 11-13, 13-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-3 ) although she led 2-3. Ditto for Charlotte Lutz, defeated by the Romanian Bernadette Szocs (11-6, 7-11, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10, 11-9).
