The Paramount+ platform with Showtime has presented the first footage of the new spy thriller The Agency. The series, starring Richard Gere and Michael Fassbender, will be released this fall.
The Agency is an adaptation of the French series Bureau des legends, which aired from 2015 to 2020. The plot centers on a CIA agent with the code name «The Martian», played by Michael Fassbender. After six years of undercover work, he is summoned to the headquarters in London. There, he has to get used to the usual command structure under the leadership of Bosco, a former undercover agent played by Richard Gere.
However, the past does not let go of the Martian. An old romantic relationship resurfaces, and new and old threats threaten to entangle the agent in a complex web of lies. The released footage shows tense scenes in CIA offices and on the streets of London.
The cast of «Agency» also includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston and John Magaro. Wright will play Henry, the CIA’s director of operations and the Martian’s mentor. Turner-Smith will portray Sami Zaheer, a professor of social anthropology who shares a past with the protagonist.
The series was created by Smokehouse Pictures, a company founded by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. The first two episodes were directed by Joe Wright, known for the movie «Dark Times». The script for all ten episodes of the first season was written by brothers Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.
The premiere date of The Agency on Paramount+ with Showtime has not yet been announced, but it is known that the series will be released this fall.
