Between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.messages will be sent to the phones of people who are within the targeted area. These are 30,000 people who are potentially affected.
They will first receive with a shrill Fr-Alert ringtone – impossible to confuse with the alarm ringtone of your cell phone or the one you have assigned to a particular contact -, then a notification titled “EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE” which must be displayed on the screen, with, in sequence, the reason for the alert (here the risk of chemical pollution) and the instructions to follow to stay safe (“Stay at home”, “position yourself at a height”, etc…).

Alongside these messages to the population, a PPI (Special Intervention Plan) siren is triggered (like the one that sounds in fire stations every first Wednesday of the month), while the area’s elected officials, emergency services, or the police forces are also put in the loop.

During this security exercise, the prefecture also warns: no particular reaction is expected from the population during this exercise, during which you should also not attempt to call for help. She specifies: “During this exercise, the security procedures of some establishments open to the public located within the scope of Arkéma Saint-Menet’s specific intervention plan will be tested: Marseille Saint-Menet Travelers reception area , schools, Ikea La Valentine store, etc..”
The instructionsthis time, are therefore the following from the Prefecture:
• When you receive the Fr-Alert notification on your mobile phone and/or hear the sirens of the operator Arkéma Saint-Menet and the population information alert system, no action is required on your part.
• If you spot false information on social media, do not re-share it and report it to us
• Do not clutter the emergency, police, fire, emergency call numbers.
• Follow the X accounts (ex-Twitter), Facebook and Instagram of @prefet13which will inform you of the start of the exercise and its end.
