Madonna in mourning: her poignant tribute to her deceased brother

The disappearance of Christopher Ciccone comes barely two weeks after that of their mother-in-law, Joan Clare Ciccone, who also died of cancer on September 24. And a year after that of the singer’s brother, Anthony. The pop star paid tribute to the deceased on her Instagram account, posting multiple photographs of them, accompanied by a long message. “My brother Christopher is gone. He was the closest human being to me for so long,” she wrote.

A special bond

Madonna and Christopher Ciccone were very close. The latter played several roles alongside his sister. He notably wore the hats of stylist, dresser and artistic director, and accompanied the singer on several of her tours. Their relationship grew through their shared love of dance. “Dancing was a kind of superglue that held us together. Discovering dance in our small Midwestern town saved me, and then my brother came along, and it saved him too,” confides Madonna.

Although the two shared a very close relationship, understanding was not always there. In 2008, Christopher Ciccone published a book called “Life with My Sister Madonna”, an autobiography in which he exposed the tensions that existed between them. He also mentioned the bad influence that Guy Ritchie, the singer’s ex-husband, exerted on her. Following the publication of the work, Christopher and Madonna distanced themselves.
