Binche-Chimay-Binche ladies – The young Briton Cat Ferguson dominated the women’s peloton in Binche

The start of the women’s race was at a brisk pace with numerous breakaway attempts. The peloton was split up at the first crossing of the finish line in Binche, after 85 kilometers of racing.

The passage on the cobblestones of the Grand-Place of Binche led to the creation of a group of around twenty competitors, thirty kilometers from the goal, including Cat Ferguson, the Dutchwoman Charlotte Kool (DSM) and the Finnish Anniina Ahtosalo ( Uno-X), third in Binche in 2022 and 2023 and very active at the head of the group.

A peloton of nearly forty units set off on the last lap of the local circuit, at the second crossing of the finish line. A trio, composed of the Dutch Anneke Dijkstra (Volkervessels) and Jeanne Korevaar (Liv-Alula) and the French Victoire Berteau (Cofidis), took the initiative fourteen kilometers from the goal. Berteau and Dijsktra held on until the last kilometer where the chasing group caused the sprinters’ teams to regroup.

The sprint on the cobbles of the Grand-Place in Binche saw the talented British junior emerge ahead of the Austrian Christina Schweinberger (Fenix-Deceuninck) and Anniina Ahtosalo.

Cat Ferguson, the youngest winner in Binche, succeeded her British compatriot Pfeiffer Georgi who won in 2023 on the list of winners in the women’s race.
