Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has reacted to Ghana striker Antoine Semenyo’s goal in Bournemouth’s 3-1 win over Southampton at the Vitality Stadium on Monday.

Semenyo’s strike helped seal an important victory for Bournemouth, continuing their impressive form in the Premier League. Potter, speaking to Sky Sports, highlighted the striker’s perseverance and determination throughout his career.

“It’s a great story, it’s really nice to hear the kind of journey he’s taken as you’ve already said. He’s had his ups and downs, he’s had to suffer in the lower leagues and had experiences where he’s not playing, but he’s continued to tell a great story for any young player,” he said.

Sometimes patience is the most important thing, he obviously has talent, the trick is finding the right path and everyone’s path is different.

“But he is convinced, he is using all these experiences and he has arrived in the Premier League in a somewhat humble way, grateful for what he has now and appreciating the journey he has been on and all his contribution. It’s a very beautiful story,”

The Cherries took the lead in the 17th minute when Evanilson headed home an assist from Marcus Tavernier. Bournemouth doubled their advantage 15 minutes later, as Dango Ouattara finished off a neat pass from Lewis Cook.

Antoine Semenyo added Bournemouth’s third goal just before half-time, again assisted by Cook, giving the Cherries a 3-0 lead in the 39th minute. Southampton struggled to respond but pulled back early in the second half through Taylor Harwood-Bellis, who headed in a free kick in the 51st minute.

This victory narrows the gap between the two teams, with Bournemouth now recording five wins to Southampton’s ten. The Cherries will next face Leicester City.
