The dynamic association Shows for Womencreated five years ago in Sees (Orne) and chaired by Valérie Loritteis mobilizing again this year as part of Pink October. For around thirty years, this month has been devoted to events intended to informer et encourage THE women au breast cancer screening.

Wellness treatments and activities

Despite its name, the “Sées pour Elles” association is not reserved for Sagiennes and is aimed at women of the whole department affected by the disease. The specificity of the association: its scope of action. Given the geographical distance of structures offering this type of service, the association devotes its actions to the well-being of women affected by the disease.

According to a regular rhythm, the association offers its some 35 beneficiaries : the intervention of healthcare and sports professionals, onco-hairdressing sessions, plantar reflexivity, socio-aesthetics, massage, adapted fitness or even discussion groups allowing patients to regain confidence, exchange and support each other.

“Think of something else”

Sophie Garetwhose harsh treatment slowed down his arrival in the association, says he found a breathing space. “A bubble of air”, in his daily life, a meeting place “where we tell each other what others cannot understand”, especially “the difficulty of coping with everyday activities”. She says how much the little messages in the Whatsapp group from the association’s “friends” support when there is a drop in morale or a new treatment begins. For Sophie, each moment spent within the association allows her to escape, “to think about something else” by making a bouquet or sharing a snack.

Upcoming events for the benefit of the association

Tuesday October 1: bowling evening, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., at the Argentan bowling alley. Price: €5 per game.
Friday October 4: pink evening, from 6 p.m., at the Sées multipurpose center. Departure of the pink walk (4 km) at 7 p.m. Prices: €5 (free for under 16s). Followed by sports activities.
Thursday October 17: film meeting, at 8:30 p.m., at the Le Rex cinema. Screening of the documentary Personn’elles by Valérie-Anne Maniot followed by a meeting. Single price: €6.
Sunday October 20: country ball, at 1:30 p.m., at the Surdon multi-activity room, with the Macé en Tiags association. Price: €5.
Sunday November 17: theater afternoon, at 2 p.m., at the S2es multipurpose center. Two plays performed by Le Miroir Normand and Continents comedians. Free participation.
Stand on the markets: Saturday October 5, 12 and 19 in Sées, Sunday October 6 in Mortrée and Friday October 18 in Courtomer.

The association is led by a team of volunteersit is to her that the mission of collect the funds which allow patients to benefit free of charge, all year round, from the activities or services offered. Around thirty businesses, coordinated by Lucie Villy from the L’Oiseau-Lyre bookstore, are mobilizing for a competition throughout the month. Participating merchants will stand out by hanging pink balloons on their windows and the presence of the ribbon which will act as a pink thread in the streets of the city.

Throughout the year, the City of Sées lends the association a locallocated in the media library, commonly called “the bubble” by the beneficiaries. She relays the program of events and allows him to meet the Sagiens on the market.

During the month of October, the town hall and the washhouse of the course of the fountains will be highlighted rose.
