Here are our teams!

How is it possible that in 2024, we hear Fat Boy Slim on the sound system? Surely we can put all that down there, right?

For the elderly, this game means this goal:

I just squeezed my neck a pint of green juice, a green juice made with kale, blueberries, ginger, turmeric and carrots, because I can’t eat vegetables but I can consume any drink beyond the taste buds. Today, we can only improve.

On TV, they talk about Jhon Duran, who is a substitute again. I need to see more of him – hitting from distance isn’t a sustainable approach to scoring goals – but he has so many attributes so he’s a really exciting talent and, if he keeps improvising, he will not just leave the field. bench for a long time.

Kieran McKenna says his team will do everything in their power to make the game competitive. It’s about learning – there are so many new players, so many newcomers to the league, but we’re still very early in the season and they’re trying to improve every game.

Ipswich haven’t played at home for a month, but the atmosphere they have created on the pitch and the intensity of their style makes it a big advantage.

Sky has just looked back at Ipswich’s 2000-01 season, in which Marcus Stewart was the hero. He seems to be a real sound character and, although he now suffers from MND, he is as optimistic as ever.

As for Villa, they will look to put Watkins behind, with Tielemans and Onana pushing to lock down Ipswich. I would expect them to look for cutbacks and crosses at the near post, while also causing havoc on set pieces.

Where is the game? Ipswich, I imagine, will target the flanks. On Villa’s right, Ezri Jonsa is not a full-back and Leon Bailey is not a defender while, on the left, Digne likes to support the attack so there can be space in behind. Otherwise, Villa’s high line offers opportunities, but keeping them out, let alone creating, is easier said than done.

E-mail! “Oh Daniel, you said it, these negative expectations!” writes Richard Hirst. “Putting Fulham and Southampton as games Ipswich needed to win, you seem to have failed to notice the table, where one of those teams is sixth!”

And yet we failed to record a victory against lowly Ipswich!

He’ll have his hands full, but. Villa’s left side is dangerous, with Jacob Ramsey an intelligent physical and direct presence and Lucas Digne also a threat. Add to that Ollie Watkins shooting wide and moving from outside to inside and it’s not hard to imagine Villa causing him plenty of problems.

I can’t wait to see how Axel Tuanzebe performs today. There was a time when he looked like he could become a very serious centre-back – many in the Premier League will never play as well as in Manchester United’s win over PSG in 2020. But injuries have refused to leave him alone, such so Ipswich could be his last chance to pursue a top career; we will see.

Emery, meanwhile, makes a change: John McGinn is injured, so Leon Bailey comes in on the right of midfield.

Three changes for Ipswich following the draw in Southampton. Most intriguingly, Jack Clarke, signed from Sunderland, makes his first league start, while Kalvin Phillips and Chiedozie Ogbene also come in; Jean Cajuste, Wes Burns and Sammy Szmodics retire.

I will write them down, we will then think about what they might mean.

Preamble

It’s much easier to impress people when they don’t know what to expect, a tribute to the human capacity to have negative expectations: I’ll automatically assume they, you, or them are bullshit, so whatever which is better than that is a victory.

Once they know it, everything changes – and, by an astonishing coincidence, that’s where Aston Villa found themselves at the start of this season. Before it started, one might have wondered whether they would find the form that took them to the Champions League – while demanding it of them, of course. Well, four wins and one defeat later – plus one win from one in Europe – suggests they just might get there.

The fact is that Villa were really good before they proved it – Unai Emery inherited a strong, talented and expensive team that just needed his genius to elevate clubs of their precise description. We therefore have no reason to be surprised by their quality, the quality of the team reflecting the quality of the manager and the quality of the manager reflecting the quality of the team in perfect symbiosis.

Ipswich, meanwhile, are struggling. Kieran McKenna has already performed a miracle in taking them from League One to the Premier League in ridiculous style, but enforcing that at the highest level is a different challenge. Although they couldn’t have expected to win anything in their first two games – Liverpool at home, Man City away – they have since drawn three times in a row. Which might represent progress, but could just as easily prove a missed opportunity given that Fulham at home and Southampton away are the sort of matches that a promoted team hoping to stay up will feel they must win .

They will feel they have a chance this afternoon, however: a 95th-minute equalizer last time out means they are on the buzz, while Villa have the not insignificant distraction of a midweek meeting with the Bayern Munich looming. This should be good, that’s where we came in…

Kick-off: 2:00 p.m. BST
