As planned, there will be no international tournament this year, as usual for three decades on the indoor courts of Vabre.
This is no surprise, since it was revealed here several months ago. However, it almost hurts the department’s tennis fans as well! They will not be able to take advantage of the only global event organized in Aveyron, the Rodez International. The very one which should have been in its 30th edition this week and notably welcomed the future world stars of the discipline!
But due to the advanced state of dilapidation of the infrastructures – playing surface and lighting in particular – owned by the Rodez town hall in Vabre, the departmental committee, as organizer, had to give up.
It smells good for a winning return in 2025
However, in accordance with the promise of the tournament director and tutelary figure of the yellow ball in Aveyron Jean-Jacques Crognier, the ITF calendar does not mention any other Future tournament in France during this week; the place of the Rouergate competition thus seems to be preserved. Good news for the potential 2025 version… which also does not come alone since the elected official in charge of sports at the municipality, Olivier Nicolas, confirmed to us this Monday the proposed budget for 2025.at least 150,000 euros for compliance“.
Also a consolation prize: the progress of the prequalifications for the Petits As (World Championship for 14-year-olds) held in Vabre from the Christmas holidays to the first week of All Saints’ Day.
