Australian Open > Paula Badosa, surprise defeater of Cori Gauff in the quarter-finals: “A year ago, I was here and I didn't know if I was going to have to retire”

Paula Badosa delivered a linear and very consistent match to dominate Coco Gauff, who was clearly one of the favorites of the tournament. Never mistreated by the American, the Spaniard was very effective in all areas of the game. Mentally, she did not waver, she remained in her bubble.

This consistency paid off (7−5, 6–4) especially as Coco didn't seem to be having a great day. Paula is therefore in the semi‐final of the Australian Open where she could face her best friend on the circuit, Aryna Sabalenka.

Questioned on the court, she initially just wanted to talk about her story which is not trivial, quite the contrary.

As a reminder, having suffered a long back injury, she almost announced her retirement after months of ordeal before finally finding an effective remedy. “A year ago I was here. I didn't know if I was going to have to retire from the sport. I won today. I'm in the semi-finals. I never thought that a year later I would be here. »
