Yesterday evening, Friday January 17, a man was arrested at the entrance to the Haute-Garonne departmental council in Toulouse. Unknown to the police, he was immediately taken into police custody.
This arrest comes in a particular context: a commemorative round table entitled “Freedom of expression: 10 years later, what remains of Charlie's spirit?” An event organized by the Haute-Garonne department with one objective, to recall the attack which affected the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo and to highlight the fight for freedom of expression. Several personalities were present: Thibaut Bruttin, general director of Reporters Sans Frontières or Antonio Fischetti, journalist at Charlie Hebdo.
-According to information from La Dépêche, confirmed by the department's services that we had online this morning, it was at 7 p.m. that a man presented himself at the checkpoint of the Republic Pavilion, in Toulouse. During the regulatory search, provided for by the Vigipirate plan, a revolver, loaded with blanks, was discovered in the individual's bag.
He was arrested without incident and taken into custody by the police. The conference, which brought together 350 participants, continued throughout the evening.
In a press release, the socialist president of the Departmental Council, Sébastien Vincini, salutes “the composure and professionalism of the department's security agents and now says he is awaiting “the conclusions of the investigation”.
Still according to our colleagues, a search was carried out at the suspect's home this Saturday, January 18 in the morning. Six pistols and three revolvers were found, all loaded with blanks.
The investigation, led by the Toulouse judicial police, is ongoing and must establish the profile of the suspect.
