The Habs lost, in three sets, in the second round of the Australian Open. There are no longer any French women in the running.
Last French representative in the women's draw in Melbourne, Varvara Gracheva (69th) was eliminated Thursday in the 2nd round of the Australian Open by the German Eva Lys (128th).
Aged 23, the German right-hander won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 and will face the Romanian Jacqueline Cristian (82nd) or the Italian Lucia Bronzetti (76th) in the next round.
No French woman in the third round, first since 2020
Before the elimination of Varvara Gracheva, the four other French representatives (Diane Parry, Caroline Garcia, Chloé Paquet and Léolia Jeanjean) had all been ousted in the first round.
The last Australian Open where no French woman managed to get past the 2nd round dates back to 2020. In 2024, Océane Dodin had the best French career in the women's draw by reaching the round of 16.
