In this quarter-final of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, the American Madison Keys faces the Danish Clara Tauson for a place in the semi-final. Madison Keys, seeded number 1 in this tournament, is the favorite to win the title this season. Victorious in her first two rounds in 2 sets, she indeed seems to confirm her status as leader. She beat the Italian Lucia Bronzetti in less than 1h30, then was even faster against Jaqueline Cristian, imposing a severe 6-1, 6-2 in just 1h15.
Clara Tauson, for her part, is the number 5 seed in the tournament and won her first round quite easily against the Italian Lucrezia Stefanini (146th in the world), from qualifying. She then had to come back to score against the American and 81st in the world Sofia Kenin, and came very close to defeat by playing the 2nd and 3rd sets until the tie-break and in a duel lasting almost 3 hours. Having returned well in her 2nd duel of this tournament, the Dane had however not had 2 consecutive victories since October and her participation in the Osaka tournament where she lost in the quarter-final against the 63rd in the world.
