ATP > Guy Forget on Rafael Nadal: “I’m happy that he’s no longer here, that we’re moving on”

During a recent interview given to our colleagues at NewsGuy Forget notably returned to the end of Rafael Nadal’s career. And for the old 4e world player, it was time for her to finish. Excerpts.

Question : “This year’s event 2024 remains the retreat of a legend. You have never hidden your admiration for Rafael Nadal. Were you able to hold back your tears during Rafa’s last appearance? »

Guy Forget : “Yes… I was able to hold back my tears because I found him worthy, almost happy. He was sometimes even embarrassed by the extent it took in the places he went. He felt a pang in his heart in front of his family, but he knew the outcome of what was going to happen. He was disappointed that his team lost the Davis Cup. We know how much this competition and representing his country mean to him. He was sad but in his place. When I saw him lose like he did, it was good, the right time. I don’t want to see Rafa miss easy balls, penalty volleys. To think that he was going to be able to beat a player who plays every week, it was not possible. I almost found it more moving to see the best moments of his career. It’s so incredible. I’m still in awe and I’m glad he’s gone, that we’re moving on, and I can’t wait to challenge him in golf, where he’ll become very strong. »
