Opposed to Germain Roesch, outgoing president Gilles Moretton obtained a new four-year mandate this Saturday at the head of the French Tennis Federation (FFT).
Favorite of the election, Gilles Moretton, the incumbent, won against Germain Roesch, his challenger. The result of the election was announced this Saturday late afternoon, after the general assembly of the federal body which was held in Paris at the Roland-Garros stadium. Moretton obtained 61.19% of the votes cast by French tennis delegates elected by the clubs and presidents of affiliated associations. The Clubs! At the heart of our commitment » led by Germain Roesch obtained 19,273 votes (or 38.81%). The Rhodanian will therefore continue his mission as president of the FFT until December 2028.
In the final part of the vote, more than 7,000 club presidents started voting on Thursday at 10 a.m. and until midday on Saturday. Their votes count for half in this long electoral process which began in September with the elections of delegates through departmental and regional ballots. The re-election in Île de France (the largest League in terms of number of members and votes), of Roesch with 54.42% of the votes, surprised observers and those involved in the campaign and reignited the suspense. But the clubs as a whole preferred to focus on continuity. Moretton thus emerges victorious from a campaign marked by a few skirmishes, low blows and even appeals before the federal disputes commission. Gilles Moretton becomes the first president since Jean Gachassin (2009-2017) to be re-elected at the head of the country's second sports federation.
Starting too late and from too far away, his opponent Germain Roesch, president of the Île-de-France league, benefiting from too timid support among the high level, failed to create a surprise.
