ATP Awards – Sinner coaches not nominated for the title of best coach, a scandal?

It's now official. Since yesterday, the list of nominees for the various annual prizes of the ATP Awards ceremony has been known. Thus, the prize for the best coach of the season will be played between Xavier Malisse (Alexei Popyrin), Emmanuel Planque (Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard), Michael Russell (Taylor Fritz), Brad Stine (Tommy Paul) and James Trotman (Jack Draper).

A list which can necessarily surprise since neither Zverev Sr (trainer of Zverev), nor Carlos Moya (Alcaraz) and especially neither Cahill and Vagnozzi (coaches of Sinner) appear in the list. Given the results of these three men and especially the world number 1, the choice stands out.

What is certain is that this list does not please everyone, and in particular not Jose Moron, editor-in-chief of Punto de Break who declared: “In 2023, Djokovic won 3 of the 4 Grand Tour tournaments. Slam and was number 1. The award for the best coach of the year was not won by Ivanisevic, but by Sinner's coaches.

The year Sinner was superior to everyone, in 2024, neither Cahill nor Vagnozzi (coaches of the world number 1) will be among the nominees for the title of ATP coach of the year. Neither Ferrero nor Zverev Sr. Explain that to me. This makes no sense or logic. »
