By criticizing the ATP calendar quite harshly and its sometimes hellish pace while he does not hesitate to take part in almost every exhibition available, Carlos Alcaraz has not only made allies on the circuit.

This is particularly the case of Richard Gasquet, known for his outspokenness who, without responding directly to the Spaniard, gave the substance of his thoughts to our colleagues at The Team.

“Tennis is very hard. But it’s good news that we play too much, that there are a lot of tournaments, that there are exhibitions. There is an event in Saudi Arabia, the Laver Cup, the UTS, the United Cup. It’s amazing what there is today. The offer is enormous, the circuit magnificent. What I find hard are the Challengers. You win €500 if you make it to the quarter-finals even though I swear the guys are playing steel! It plays much better than when I started, nothing to see. The top 10 playing too much doesn’t shock me that much. Nobody forces you to play exhibitions, you can adapt your schedule »declared the 38-year-old Frenchman who will therefore retire in a few months at Roland-Garros.
