Disappeared since 2019, the Wuhan Open makes its comeback next week. Since the appearance of Covid-19, the Chinese WTA 1000 had been removed from the calendar. As a reminder, the virus appeared in the province of Wuhan in December 2019 and the city was the first to be confined. The seventh edition of the event will therefore take place five years after the sixth. The last two had been packed by Aryna Sabalenkathen ranked around 15th place in the world. Today, the latter returns with another status, that of world No. 2 and tournament favorite. Iga Swiatek not being there, the Belarusian also has a great opportunity to seize in Chine in his quest for the throne. It will start against Alexandra Eala or Katerina Siniakova and could face Emma Navarro in quarters and Coco Gauff in semis.

Parry and Burel alone French women

Caroline Garcia having ended their season, there are only two French women in the big picture: Diane Parrywho will start against the American Hailey Baptiste to join Barbora Krejcikova in the second round, and Clara Burel. Crushed in the second round of qualifying by Cristina Bucsa but picked up immediately, the Breton will challenge the Chinese Yue Yuan. Jessica Pegulaseeded n°2, will have Anastasia Potapova or Katie Volynets as the first opponent. On her way, the American could quickly find Paula Badosain the third round, then Krejcikova in quarters and Qinwen Zheng or Jasmine Paolini in semis.
