Apple wants to increase iPhone sales with thinner models

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino technology group is considering major upgrades after years of mostly minor changes to its devices.

There is talk of thinner and foldable iPhones to boost sales, the American business newspaper reveals based on insider reports.

Starting next year, Apple plans to introduce an iPhone thinner than the current one by around 8 millimeters, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. This would be a cheaper model than the Pro models, with a simplified camera system to keep costs down.

Apple is reportedly preparing several changes to the design of its iPhone range and possibly other products as well. The Wall Street Journal also mentions foldable devices, but rumors about a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years now. Its main rival, Samsung, has had foldable smartphones in its range for years. Motorola, Google, OnePlus and Huawei have also been active in this market for some time.

Artificial intelligence

iPhone sales still represent a very large portion of Apple’s revenue. The company’s revenues grew to $94.9 billion last quarter. This is 6 percent more than a year earlier. iPhones accounted for $46.2 billion of that amount.

The latest iPhones have seen success, in part due to new features using artificial intelligence (AI). But sales in the Chinese market, important for Apple, have been disappointing.
