YouTube is testing changing the effect of a swipe down when playing a long video in full screen. This gesture would no longer allow you to return to windowed mode on the Android version of the application.
The gesture is ingrained in the muscle memory of all users. We launch a long video on the application, put it in full screen. At some point, we want to return to windowed mode. The gesture is automatic, we slide our finger down and our “swipe” allows us to return to windowed mode. It’s simple, practical. This avoids having to tap once on the video before clicking on the icon associated with returning to windowed mode.
However, we will soon have to learn to get rid of this reflex since Google wants to modify the effect of this gesture. Indeed, as spotted by Tushar Mehta on the social network This modification is not trivial since it makes it possible to standardize the experience with the Shorts. Indeed, on the latter, sliding your finger up or down allows you to move from one video to the next or the previous one depending on the orientation. For the moment this modification is being tested by the platform. This therefore allows people who will not appreciate this change to maintain the slight hope that it will not be implemented.
