Strix Halo gaming laptops won’t launch soon, but leak reveals Strix Halo iGPU performance, specs and launch cadence

AMD Strix Halo or Ryzen AI Max 300 APUs are expected to appear at CES 2025 in the form of three separate products:

  1. Ryzen AI Max 385
  2. Ryzen AI Max 390
  3. Ryzen AI Max+ 395

These APUs are said to contain up to 16 Zen 5 cores as well as a powerful RDNA 3.5 iGPU that rivals discrete GPUs in laptops. In its latest leak, Moore’s Law Is Dead claims that Strix Halo APUs will be marketed under the “Ryzen AI Max Pro” brand. The leaker also confirms the specifications, iGPU performance and release cadence of the Strix Halo machines.

AMD Strix Halo Features

Starting with the general specs, MLID confirms that the flagship APU of the Strix Halo, expected to be the Ryzen AI Max+ 395, the Strix Halo APU features 16 Zen 5 cores, a 40 CU RDNA 3.5 iGPU, and a TDP of 120 W. The Strix Halo APUs would also support LPDDR5X 8533 MT/s memory, with memory size capped at 128 GB.

Naturally, the 128 GB of memory is intended for workstations. Machines with 128 GB memory will debut in the second quarter of 2025, while devices with 32 and 64 GB memory are expected to be released in the first quarter of 2025.

As for the release date, MLID claims that after being revealed at CES, workstations powered by Ryzen AI Max APUs will debut in Q1, followed by gaming laptops in Q2 25. The leaker adds that if the new APUs are popular, we could also see small form factor Strix Halo mini PCs in the future.

Performances de l’iGPU Strix Halo

If the Strix Halo iGPU does indeed perform like an RTX 4070-like laptop GPU, it would be a phenomenal increase over AMD’s current leader, the Radeon 890Met would put the company far ahead Intel Arc 140V Intel Arc 140V. However, we can’t pit these iGPUs against each other directly, as the Strix Halo will be much more power hungry.
