Launched last year, the DJI Air 3 is a drone that is not short of advantages: 70 mm telephoto lens, admirable image quality, super reassuring omnidirectional obstacle detection… A device that could almost cast a shadow to the Mavic 3 Pro. On the occasion of Black Friday, the DJI Air 3 is benefiting from a nice reduction at Fnac and at Darty: it is offered at 999 euros instead of 1,209 euros, with its accessories.
Replacing the popular DJI Air 2S, the DJI Air 3 is a recent drone which has benefited from some improvements, including the addition of a second lens, a privilege previously reserved for the premium Mavic range. And this is not its only strong point, far from it: this drone received a score of 9/10 at the end of our test, thanks in particular to its excellent image quality, its good detection of obstacles and its autonomy clearly increasing. Does this program tempt you? Please note that you will be able to take advantage of it after spending less than 1,000 euros thanks to a promotion put in place in the run-up to Black Friday.
The strong points of the DJI Air 3
- Two lenses, including a 70mm equivalent telephoto lens
- Good omnidirectional obstacle detection
- Better flight time
Instead of 1,209 euros, the DJI Air 3 accompanied by its accessories (RC-N2 remote control, battery charging station, three batteries, cables, gimbal protection, spare propellers and shoulder bag) is now available in promotion at 999 euros at Fnac and Darty.
If you prefer to use the DJI Air 3 with an RC2 remote control, note that the pack with the drone and its accessories is offered at 1,099 euros instead of 1,389 euros at Fnac and Darty.

A drone with two very good lenses
Unlike DJI’s Mini models, the DJI Air 3 is not a particularly lightweight model; it is also more imposing than its predecessor, the DJI Air 2S. It therefore weighs 720 g, a weight which makes it necessary to obtain the civil aviation certificate of fitness. It is certainly not a lightweight, but with its dimensions of 32 x 25 x 10 cm (folded), fortunately it remains easily transportable. The drone also benefits from good manufacturing quality, with a nacelle protected with a plastic cover and a body flanked by several sensors and lenses for detecting obstacles as well as an interior lighting system, practical at night. And if DJI does not mention any IP certification, the DJI Air 3 was able to valiantly withstand a few showers during our test.
The drone also has two lenses: a 24 mm equivalent wide-angle lens as well as a 70 mm equivalent telephoto lens, which is also found on the Mavic 3 Pro. And this addition is really appreciable, as it allows us to film a subject closer and prevent the drone from having to travel several hundred additional meters, as radio transmission is not always optimal in certain conditions. This focal length is also very useful when the drone approaches an area above which we cannot film. Please note that the DJI Air 3 is the first Air to receive such a second lens. Also note that the same CMOS sensor in 1/1.3″ format, 4/3 ratio and 48 MP definition is associated with both lenses; and let us tell you, its dynamic range is pretty amazing. Photo enthusiasts will undoubtedly be delighted.
Smooth flights
The DJI Air 3 also comes with an RC-N2 remote control, which requires the use of a smartphone in parallel to operate, unlike the RC2 radio control, which is more high-end and equipped with a screen. It still allows the drone to fly efficiently. Let’s move on to piloting: the DJI Air 3 is first of all the first from the brand to benefit from the new DJI O4 tri-band transmission technology and sees its maximum control distance increase from 12 to 20 km; keep in mind that these distances are theoretical, given that French legislation imposes a limit of 8 km, and that the autonomy is not sufficient for a flight of 40 km (20 km round trip).
In action, its wind resistance is very good and its omnidirectional obstacle detection makes every flight safe. The user can also count on several in-flight assistance functions, to find the right framing, for example. It can also film in 1080p or 4K, with frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 48, 50 or 60 frames per second, and even film in vertical mode, practical for Instagram and TikTok. Finally, in terms of autonomy, the DJI Air 3 does much better than the Air 2S with 46 minutes of flight instead of 31. But everything will of course depend on several factors (wind, obstacles, speed, etc.).
