A radical change coming to Waze: you’ll have to get used to it

The voice-guided navigation application will radically change the way it reports incidents on the road.

Waze is without a doubt one of the most popular navigation apps on the market. The app owes this popularity above all to its community, which is very active when it comes to reporting road accidents, roadworks, police checks or traffic jams. The problem is that until now, making these reports meant taking a risk while driving because you had to interact with the smartphone screen. All this will change with the next update of the app since Google is adding a new way to interact with Waze: by voice.

The strength of the app will be to understand the reports regardless of the words used: “It looks like there is a vehicle stopped on the side” should actually activate a report in the app, when you will talk to him. If Waze doesn’t understand, the app will ask you for some clarification, again by voice.

The big advantage is that with this mode of interaction, you will no longer need to take your eyes off the road, and you will therefore no longer take unnecessary risks to help the community.

Initially, the function will only be operational in English. Waze promises, however, that it will gradually be accessible in other languages as well. By switching your app to English, you should logically have access to it in Belgium from next week.
