Should we continue to offer compacts with small sensors when everyone today has a phone capable of taking photos of astonishing quality? Certainly, users will continue to turn to cameras when they are looking for powerful zoom. This is also a niche in which the HX99 excels with its 30x zoom stored in a pocket handkerchief. But the optical quality is not there and the image quality struggles to withstand competition from 1″ sensor devices. The HX99 remains capable of great things for a low price, but its market is shrinking at high speed. .

The second best quality/price ratio

The Olympus Tough TG-6 is a successful durable compact. It feels solid and offers creative modes and welcome automation, while retaining advanced options for the most experienced photographers. If part of the ergonomics has been sacrificed on the altar of compactness and solidity, the Tough TG-6 should not pose any major problem in use. Its biggest flaw is perhaps ultimately the lack of developments compared to the Tough TG-5. Already very successful, the previous model ultimately poses itself as an alternative to a new, not very innovative version.
