an adoption rate lower than expected

Last year, only 66 % of iPhone was running under iOS 17 a few months after its launch. Apple’s last update, iOS 18, seems to follow the same trajectory despite its promises.

The first statistics show thatiOS 18 team 76 % of iPhone released over the past four years. A figure slightly higher than that of iOS 17 at the same period the previous year.

A stable adoption despite Apple Intelligence

On all iPhone in circulation, iOS 18 reaches an adoption rate of 68 %. Again, the progression is minimal compared to its predecessor. However, this new version brings its share of innovations. The advanced customization of the home screen and the integration of Apple Intelligence were particularly highlighted. At least, for countries benefiting from this suite of IA tools.

Let us recall that in and in Europe, iOS 18 is devoid of Apple Intelligence, except on the other side of the English Channel. An absence that could partly explain the lack of enthusiasm of the users of these regions for update.

Multiple factors that slow down adoption

Beyond the unavailability of Apple Intelligence in certain countries, other elements can explain this halftone adoption. Users are increasingly cautious about updates, fearing bugs and slowdowns.

In addition, the pace of iPhone renewal tends to slow down. Users keep their device longer, thus pushing the installation of the latest versions of iOS.

If you are still under iOS 17 in France, the update to iOS 18 still brings its share of improvements. Even without Apple Intelligence, the new personalization options are worth the detour.
