LITERATURE. Marie-Paule Villeneuve has written a second novel in five years about a famous and controversial resident of the Canton of Potton. His most recent work is entitled “Who Killed Gerald Bull?” »
This title follows “Draw me a canon – The crazy dream of Dr Bull”, published in 2019. The author uses elements of her long research to write a story mixing reality and fiction.
“My first book took place more in Potton with testimonies from people and those around them who still live in this region,” explains Ms. Villeneuve. This time, I’m going out of the village to bring back to life Gerald Bull’s past, his youth, his character, his bipolarity and his life in prison. »
“I also incorporate new information about him, including a clearer role for the CIA in explaining the mysterious murder of this murdered engineer in Belgium. »
This story takes us behind the scenes of the eventful life of the man known for his famous cannon built near the Canadian-American border, more precisely in the Highwater sector. He was under the microscope of Mossad (Israel), the CIA (United States) and MI6 (United Kingdom). He was notably imprisoned in 1980 for selling his weapons illegally in South Africa.
-According to the author, who lived for around ten years in Potton before settling in Granby in 2021, this work allows us to better understand the many issues of international politics and the wars that loom when Bull comes into play. .
Gerald Bull died in 1990 after working three decades on his property in Potton Township. Some will remember Space Research, which gave employment to several local citizens. Its installations and supercannon were dismantled in 1994.
A book launch will take place on January 28 in Granby. Another will follow in Sutton on February 3. A similar event could also be held in Potton and Sherbrooke. The book is available at the GGC Library in Magog and at the Librairie Appalaches in Sherbrooke.
