During the last event presented by Xbox, South of Midnight, the next title from the Compulsion Games studio, was once again revealed with a new video dedicated to the history of the game. If the first teaser, released in 2023, had amazed players with its unique aesthetic and its enchanting universe inspired by the legends of the South of the United States, these new extracts get more to the heart of the matter.
The story of South of Midnight reveals a little more
In this video, we discover a little more about Hazel, the heroine of the game, as well as some important characters in the story and the main mechanics that will accompany her journey. Featuring truly successful artistic direction, mixing stop motion animation (which can be switched off if necessary) and visual effects, South of Midnight transports us to a mystical bayou where folklore and the supernatural meet.
The revealed game phases highlight several colorful characters, but also some fights against strange creatures which give our heroine a bit of a challenge. The developers also took the opportunity to justify the use of stop motion which, according to them, allows them greater creative freedom.
This new preview leaves no doubt, Compulsion Games is working to shape a game that stands out not only for its atmosphere, but also for its gameplay which seems decidedly much deeper than it seems. The studio had already indicated that after Contrast and We Happy Few, South of Midnight was their most ambitious game, and we can only believe it when seeing the result after more than six years of development.
