Connect to the free site openai.com. At the very bottom, click Try ChatGPT, then create a personal account via Sign up. You will be asked to indicate your email address, first and last name, telephone number and to create a password. After connection, a box appears in the middle of the page: this is where you can ask your questions (in jargon, we say “requests” and even more often, “prompts”). The tool will respond to you like a real interlocutor.
Note that ChatGPT also exists in a mobile version (with handy voice input) and a paid version (useful if you exceed 30 requests per day). Also note that other tools have emerged since the creation of ChatGPT: Google released Gemini, and Microsoft, CoPilot. But there is also Perplexity, Le Chat, Claude… We might as well tell you that you will have answers to your questions.

Almost, yes! His two specialties are the creation of texts (speeches, emails, advertising messages, children’s stories, summaries, translation, etc.) and brainstorming (ideas for first names, activities for a birthday, places to visit during getaways, vacation…). But apart from that, he can make you revise your English, prepare you for a job interview, help you with the children’s math homework, create a photo according to your wishes…
3. Does he only have good qualities?
We point out at least three flaws in the system:
- Cat GPT knows almost everything about everything (he cross-checks the information he has in stock), but when he doesn’t know, he embroiders, and with a certain aplomb! So be sure to check the answers it provides you. Think of it more as an assistant than a gold standard.
- We also know little about what ChatGPT does with the data you transmit to it: it is therefore better never to entrust it with confidential information (address, diary, codes).
- Finally, like any IT tool, ChatGPT is far from being ecological: it uses 30 times more energy than a traditional search engine!
