The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 is about to invade the high-end graphics card market since it will be officially launched on January 30, 8 days from now. Finally “invade” is perhaps a big word, since it is said that availability could be problematic at first. As always, NVIDIA manufactured numerous prototypes of its graphics card, with often different technical configurations before building its final version, and it seems that one of these prototypes landed in the hands of a user from the Chinese forum ChipHell , who also indicates having paid a high price for it. It must be said that the card he would have obtained is enough to make you dream, or nightmare depending on its characteristics.
The card is unfortunately largely hidden, which the user explains by the fact that it is a model obtained directly from someone working at an AIC, that is to say a partner brand from NVIDIA and which sells its own customized models (ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, ZOTAC, PNY, etc.). Showing more of the prototype could possibly allow us to go back to the source, it’s annoying, but we can understand it. This can also increase suspicion as to a fake, we will let you judge this in your soul and conscience while contenting ourselves with using the conditional, in the absence of any certainty.
We still discover the mention of a GPU GB202-200-A1which according to the Internet user would simply be a completely unbridled chip, that is to say with all of its 24 576 CUDA Colors in operation. As a reminder, the commercial version of the GeForce RTX 5090 has a GB202 with 21,760 active CUDA Cores. This would not be the only particularity of the prototype, which would also have 32 Go de GDDR7 like the “final” RTX 5090, but this time with a bit rate of the chips at 32 Gb/scompared to 28 Gb/s on the real card. Finally, you will not be able to miss another obvious physical change of the prototype, at the top right of the photo: the presence of two 12V-2×6 connectors instead of just one and for good reason: the card would have a TGP of 800 Winstead of 575 W “only” we would almost be tempted to say for the RTX 5090 that we know and will soon see on the market. Finally, the frequency of the GPU would be base at 2,100 MHz and 2 514 MHz in Boost, which is around 100 MHz more than the RTX 5090, impressive!
-Why such a prototype. We could obviously get carried away directly by talking about the RTX 5090 Ti in preparation at NVIDIA, or even the RTX Titan Blackwell, let’s be crazy. It would be a real seller and would make a nice title to attract a click, some people don’t hesitate to do so. But the user who collected the card and was therefore in contact according to his statements with a person working directly with an NVIDIA partner does not indicate any of this. According to him, this is just one of the very first prototypes sent by NVIDIA to the partner brand in question. It would have been produced in mid-July 2024, with characteristics not at all finalized so that the AIC can make its first tests and begin to prepare its cooling solutions. It is true that in this case “he who can do the most can do the least”, and it is better to send a supercharged prototype rather than underestimating the consumption and heating of the final model. But no story of “Ti” or other “Titan” on the horizon, sorry!
