Born on Wii in 2010, “Donkey Kong Country Returns” is being released on Switch. The platform game has had its title slightly modified with the addition of the “HD” label.
Not having had the honor (or the memory) of having practiced this first adventure of the gruff gorilla not designed by the studio Rareware (to which it owes its first emotions), we are content to note that it is graphically good figure.
Donkey Kong’s stock of bananas having been stolen by a tribe led by an unfriendly deity, the monkey, monarch of his island, leaves to recover his property. He is helped by his sidekick Diddy Kong who, when perched on his elder’s shoulders, allows him to briefly extend his jumps by making him hover for a few seconds.
-Here we go for a prestigious platform game, very customary in the Nintendo stable, which leaves little room for criticism. It’s cute, sturdy and well designed. THE gameplay is cooked with small onions. It’s also completely without surprises with worlds with various themes which invariably end with a test that’s a little more difficult than the others. Big bosses especially. And then, there are also the more or less hidden bonuses which push the “finishers” to redo the levels until they obtain 100% magic.
Unless you have gone through the 2010 vintage opus from left to right and from top to bottom, and you have grown tired of the superior finishes from the Nintendo stable, we see no reason which would justify neglecting this small part of pleasure. With a hint of nostalgia as a bonus.
