it will surely be for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, or even for the S27 Ultra

Samsung is reportedly preparing a major update of the telephoto lens that equips the crème de la crème of its smartphones. Indeed, its sensor could well quadruple its resolution, thus guaranteeing better enlargements. An improvement that could arrive as early as next year.

One day before the presentation of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, it is already time to talk a little about its successors. Particularly in terms of their telephoto lens, which could be equipped with a 200 Mpx sensor instead of the 50 Mpx announced for the S25, and already present in the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S24.

At least that’s what Digital Chat Station claims on the Chinese site. Weibo. According to him, Samsung is refining a new 200 Mpx telephoto lens, which could therefore appear next year on its Galaxy S26 Ultra, and at worst later, on its Galaxy S27 Ultra.

The new Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ is here

Xiaomi’s future bestseller has just arrived. This new reference combining impressive features and attractive prices is already on sale at Boulanger.

In addition, if our informant is stingy with information, he mentions a 200 Mpx 1/1.5 inch sensor. In other words, a slightly smaller solution than the one offered on the Vivo X100 Ultra, which is equipped with a 1/1.4-inch, 200MP ISOCELL HP9 sensor made by Samsung. It remains to be seen why the firm would make such a choice, and whether this will have an impact on the brightness of the camera, for example.

A better telephoto lens, but not without a slight sacrifice?

If this information proves correct, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could feature a better telephoto lens, allowing it to catch up with some of the competition. Notably the one from China with the Vivo X100 Ultra, but also with the Honor Magic7 Pro, which impressed us in this area.

A delay which could, however, quickly be forgotten if the South Korean brand concocts a software optimization which makes the most of a tailor-made sensor. This is the crux of the matter when it comes to smartphone photography, and this is where the difference could be felt the most.

There is another criterion on which we are watching Samsung with this potential new sensor: exposure time. As mentioned by our colleagues atAndroid Authoritythe Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 200MP main camera already suffers from a relatively long shutter lag. Pairing this feature with a telephoto lens, which generally has a narrower aperture, could make the situation worse.

Samsung’s future telephoto lens would thus be less efficient, at least in terms of shutter time, than the one fitted to its current smartphones. It is perhaps to avoid such a “regression” that the company must further refine its next sensor. But for now, it is difficult to say more, and in any case, all this should be taken with a grain of salt.
