The office suite will now be called Microsoft 365 Copilot on different devices. A name change that seems primarily aimed at promoting AI features.

Whether you like it or not, you know the importance of Copilot to Microsoft. After extensive integration into Windows 11, an adaptation of the Windows keyboard and the mention of ‘Copilot’ in every possible Microsoft speech and blog over the past year and a half, Microsoft’s office suite is now also equipped with a Copilot annex.

On the content side, few changes in the suite which includes, among others, Word, Excel and Powerpoint. For its part, Copilot contains limited AI features in its free version. In its paid version, they are much more complete.

Windows Latest, which discovered the name change, also observed that the link to Office.com and microsoft365.com became M365.cloud.microsoft. This change was announced some time ago.

This means that Microsoft is sticking to its tradition: as soon as people buy into a brand, the company changes it. This is how the ‘Surface’ brand, today the name of the company’s tablets and laptops, previously described large tables equipped with touch screens.

Microsoft 365 Copilot initially debuted under the name Microsoft Office. Following the move to an online suite, the product became ‘Office 365’ in 2011. In 2022, the company decided to rename its office tools to Microsoft 365. In 2025, it will therefore be Microsoft 365 Copilot, which which means that being a ‘brand manager’ at Microsoft is a long-term job.
