Right now, the vast majority of console gamers have their eyes on the Nintendo Switch 2. That said, the rumor mill is hardly resting, and it now looks like we might have some interesting developments to report regarding this which will likely be the next big thing for console gamers: Sony’s PlayStation 6.

This information comes thanks to Wccftech who managed to locate the discussion thread on NeoGAF. The thread included a post from KeplerL2, a reliable industry tipster, who claimed that the SoC for the PlayStation 6, or PS6, was “finished” and was in the pre-silicon validation phase, with a release planned towards the end of the year. In other words, the chip design is almost complete and is currently undergoing testing to make sure it works as expected. If all goes according to plan, production will begin once the taping stages have been completed.

Additionally, KeplerL2 also added that the GPU that the SoC will use is a fork of Gfx13, which basically refers to AMD RDNA 5, now UDNAprobably on a 3nm process and with GDDR7 memory support. The size of the GPU has not been revealed, but it can be assumed that it will be a mid-range UDNA chip, as is tradition. A previous rumor indicated that Sony’s PS6 processor will use 3D V-Cache which will certainly significantly improve gaming performance.

If KeplerL2 is correct that the Sony PlayStation 6 SoC design is complete, we can expect the PlayStation 6 to be released in 2027, which is about two years from now. The PlayStation 5 (currently $699 on Amazon) arrived about 7 years after the PlayStation 4, so this delay makes sense. Of course, as with all rumors, accept this information with a healthy dose of skepticism.
