A bug has appeared in the very popular game Marvel Rivals. It penalizes those who want to play with a high framerate, which leads to an increased ping.
In theory, the more you increase the framerate – rate of images per second – in a video game, the more comfortable the experience. This is even more true in a competitive environment. Except that this is clearly not the case in Marvel Rivalsunderlines Dexerto in an article published on January 13.
Indeed, a strange bug affects this very popular competitor.Overwatch : the more we increase the number of fps, the higher the ping would be, which will then increase latency and the risk of suffering penalizing lags. Internet user Nick shared this observation on January 9 on his X account (formerly Twitter), and Dexerto verified it by carrying out its own tests.

Ping is the time it takes for data to travel back and forth between a computer and a server. It is in the millisecond range and the lower it is, the better for a responsive experience. If it is too high, there can be a big gap between the action you want to take and its consequence in the game. In a title like Marvel Rivalswhere several players compete against each other, it is better to have a low ping to compete.
-The company Kaspersky, a cybersecurity specialist, recalls: “ Generally, an acceptable ping is around 40ms to 60ms or less. A ping greater than 100ms indicates noticeable lag, and beyond 170ms some games will refuse your connection entirely. A value below 20ms is an ideal ping for gaming, with clear images, fast actions and no lag while gaming. » So, a competitive game like Marvel Rivals would require a ping less than 50ms.
Here are the results obtained by the observers :
Nick | Dexerto | |
---|---|---|
30 fps | 33 ms | 28 ms |
60 fps | 41 ms | 33 ms |
90/110 fps | 46 ms | 37 ms |
unlimited fps | 66 ms | 49 ms |
As we can see, the increase is noticeable as we increase the framerate. And if your internet connection does not allow such a low ping, then it is likely to explode by being too greedy on the fps. It can almost double from 30 fps to an unlocked framerate. While waiting for the developers to correct this bug, it is recommended not to be too greedy on fluidity (around 100 fps is acceptable if your internet connection is good). Check anyway, just in case.
Note that this is not the first time that Marvel Rivals has a problem with the framerate. It was nevertheless the opposite case, we discover in a Dexerto article dating from December. Those who could not play with a high framerate were at a very disadvantage compared to others (slower movements and reduced damage for certain heroes). The update counting for the first season added an option to reduce graphics settings and, therefore, increase the number of fps. Which now results in another problem.
