At CES 2025, LG presented its new ranges of OLED televisions, the evo G5 and evo M5. They benefit from a new panel offering even more brightness so that OLED technology can continue to compete with LCD, and in particular models with Mini-LED backlighting. This new iteration from LG also benefits from multiple certifications thanks to the performances achieved.

New 100% faithful panel
The OLED evo G5 and OLED evo M5 are equipped with a panel about which LG has not yet communicated precisely. We only know that it abandoned MLA technology, or Micro Lens Array, which added a layer of microlenses intended to improve and control the dispersion of light for each pixel. Instead, complementing the undisclosed new panel technology is the Brightness Booster Ultimate. This digital processing allows the brightness to be drastically increased. At the same time, and as always with OLED, the darkest elements of the image are made up of a deep black. The whole makes it possible to reproduce extremely faithful colors. These screens have been awarded this by UL Solutions and Intertek, two companies specializing in certification and quality assurance.
The high-level results also concern image fluidity with, for the first time, a refresh rate of 165 Hz in 4K OLED, certified both by Nvidia with G-Sync and by AMD with FreeSync Premium. VESA, another certification body, gave for the first time the ClearMR 10000 label for the fluidity qualities of the LG OLED evo series 5. This label indicates the rate of blurred pixels in relation to the number of sharp pixels. Here we can say that there is no visible drag.
Artificial intelligence at the service of image and sound
This is nothing new, TV manufacturers are all using AI to dynamically improve video display. In 2025, evo OLEDs are equipped with the second generation Alpha 11 AI processor. It uses an ever-increasing library of images as a working basis. This allows it to improve scaling, intervene on the fluidity of movements or even on the tone mapping of sources in HDR10 in “professional” mode. Filmmaker Mode, the one supposed to be closest to the original source, is now associated with the ambient light sensor to correct the rendering. Thus, it will always respect the work of the director as closely as possible, whatever the lighting conditions in the room.
The AI also intervenes on the sound part in order to reproduce immersive sound in 11.1.2 virtual channels. That’s a lot of speakers for a single screen to support. LG evos are helped in this by AI Sound Pro algorithms taking into account billions of parameters and millions of audio profiles that they have been able to collect from users. The result is a tailor-made audio setting for each television and each user according to their habits and their room.
Even on a daily basis, the operation of evo OLEDs is entrusted to AI. The webOS on-screen interface is personalized according to the user thanks to AI Welcome: the television analyzes habits but also knows the voice of the person giving it orders, because it integrates voice assistants. The suggestions on the screen will then be different depending on the user while helping them find what they are looking for, thanks to the integration of Microsoft’s Copilot AI. webOS also allows you to view connected home equipment and control it by voice (those from the LG ThinQ range and all other compatible devices).
L’OLED ultime ?
Ultimate, no, since in January 2026, LG will present the sixth generation with even more technologies and intelligence. However, LG specifies that from now on, its connected TVs will benefit from five years of guaranteed updates. We can therefore be tempted by the OLED evo G5 and evo M5. The difference between the two lies in connectivity: the M5 is wireless, with a remote box which brings together all the connections, ensuring a refresh rate of 144 Hz (and not 165 Hz as on the G5). LG’s proposals are attractive. Thanks to this new panel, OLED could catch up with Mini-LED LCD which had taken the advantage in the combination of deep blacks and high brightness.
