It’s in season, Philips Hue is getting into the era of artificial intelligence. With its new assistant, announced during CES, the brand promises to simplify the creation of lighting ambiances. No more endless settings in the app: just type or say a command, like “ Set a scene for a birthday party » or « Create a cozy atmosphere for a movie night ”, and the assistant will do the rest.
A bot to manage light
The application will then be able to offer scenes already available in the Hue gallery or generate new ones, specially adapted to the request. Better yet, the assistant will also be able to adjust the parameters of existing lighting, such as the color or intensity of the light. All of this will be compatible with all of the brand’s products.
This is not a first on the market. Govee and Nanoleaf already offer similar solutions with AI-driven dynamic lighting features. But Philips Hue hopes to stand out thanks to its all-in-one approach and the integration of voice commands, absent from some competitors. It remains to be seen if the bot will not hallucinate the lighting!
Besides this assistant, Philips Hue revealed other updates during its announcement. The Philips Hue Sync TV, an application that synchronizes the lights with the image broadcast on the screen, becomes compatible with LG televisions, in addition to Samsung models. Good news for fans of immersive content, even if the application remains expensive: $129.99 to purchase or $2.99 per month for a subscription.
The brand is also expanding its range of lighting with the launch of the Philips Hue Datura, a high-end ceiling light. Available in the United States for $299.99, this model offers customizable lighting effects thanks to two separately controllable light sources.
On the connected security side, Hue is adding interesting features to its Hue Secure cameras. They will now be able to detect the sound of a fire alarm and transmit this information to compatible devices, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Nest Hub assistants. Users will also be able to view live streams from their smartphone or configure settings directly in the app.
Finally, a new accessory, a three-meter USB-C cable for cameras, will be available in March 2025 for around $20, just to give more flexibility during installation.
