Madline Sauvage, doctoral student in the laboratories of Delphine Bouilly and Sylvie Mader at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC), obtained a $6,000 scholarship at the end of the Entrepreneurial course Research your impact of the Millénium program Quebecor from the University of Montreal.

Transforming a research project into a concrete solution for women’s health

Madline Sauvage’s doctoral project aims to design a sensor for personalized monitoring of breast cancer. Ultimately, this tool will be able to detect markers of recurrence and advanced stages of breast cancer to allow therapies to be adapted according to the virulence of the cancer. This innovative work also opened the path to entrepreneurship for the doctoral student.

Driven by the desire to export laboratory technology to have a direct influence on people’s lives, Madline Sauvage first followed the Life Sciences Entrepreneurship Development Program. Lasting one year, the training offered jointly by Montréal InVivo, the Faculty of Pharmacy of UdeM and Concordia University allowed him to discover the world of entrepreneurship in life sciences and technology. health. The student then enriched her career by participating in other specialized programs, thus consolidating her knowledge of entrepreneurship and innovation.

“I realized that many skills acquired in the laboratory can be applied to entrepreneurship,” explains Madline Sauvage. Whether it is time management, the ability to carry out several projects in parallel or to present results to various audiences, I can transpose a large part of the learning from my research training to entrepreneurship.”

Throughout these training courses, she benefited from the valuable support of professor-researchers Delphine Bouilly and Sylvie Mader, who accompanied her in the development of her project.

A successful journey

Madline Sauvage subsequently joined the first cohort of the Research your impact course, offered to the University of Montreal community by the Millénium Québecor program. This program aims to develop entrepreneurial skills and support the realization of business projects resulting from university research. For seven months, Madline Sauvage lived an immersive experience, benefiting from resources to transform its idea into a business with strong societal impact. This is how she launched the young company SensÈn while pursuing her doctorate.

At the last stage of the journey, the student had the opportunity to present her innovative idea in front of a jury, an idea which earned her a $6,000 scholarship. Thanks to the support of Delphine Bouilly and Sylvie Mader, Madline Sauvage plans to devote all of her time to SensÈn after her studies and continue the co-development of the technology with them. Eager to develop this promising project, she is also looking for motivated people to join the team and contribute to the growth of SensÈn.
