When a news Porsche 911 arrives on the market, a cycle follows during which the different variants are launched. While the 911 of 8e generation, codenamed 992, underwent a slight mid-cycle redesign last year, it was the arrival of the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid, a first electrified 911, which especially attracted attention in 2024 .
Porsche improves the 2025 range and returns with a new 911 Carrera S in coupe and convertible versions; in terms of price and performance, it is positioned between the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid. No hybrid engine in its case, but more power for its mechanics; engineers have reworked its engine to extract more power, it actually becomes as powerful as the old 911 GTS.
It offers a 3-liter turbocharged Boxer engine that develops 473 horsepower and produces 390 pound-feet of torque, which is 30 horsepower more than the old Porsche 911 Carrera S. This greater power is obtained thanks to the the addition of new turbochargers and a new, more efficient air cooler, derived from that of the legendary 911 Turbo. The only gearbox offered is a dual-clutch automatic called PDK, it has 8 speeds. The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S can go from 0 to 100 kilometers/hour in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 308 kilometers/hour.
More equipment for its price
In addition to additional horsepower, the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S benefits from an increased level of standard equipment. It benefits in particular from 20- and 21-inch Carrera S wheels, a sports exhaust system with silver pipes, and the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) system, an option not available on the regular Carrera.
Engineers also added a new braking system that Porsche says significantly improves driving dynamics, the same system already fitted to the 911 Carrera GTS. It includes red brake calipers and discs measuring 408 millimeters in diameter at the front and 380 millimeters at the rear as standard. Other performance options are offered, such as Porsche Composite Ceramic Brakes (PCCB) as well as PASM sports suspension, which lowers ground clearance by 10 millimeters and integrates rear-wheel steering.
Optional rear seats for the coupe
Inside, we find a black leather package as standard, while the seats and other components are mainly trimmed in smooth leather. Interestingly, as with other Carrera coupe models, folding rear seats are offered at no extra cost as a replacement for the 2-seat configuration. In the case of the convertible version, it has rear seats as standard.
The new 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera S is now available for order, both for the coupe and the convertible. It is on sale in Canada at a starting price of $159,700 for the coupe model, and $174,000 for the convertible version, approximately $10,000 more than the base Carrera coupe and $7,000 more in the case of the convertible.
RPM’s opinion
It’s no great surprise that Porsche confirms the return of the 2025 911 Carrera S to Canada, any more than its power level is now equal to that of the old GTS. This is the Porsche way of doing things, declining the power levels downward with each change in the versions. This is true for its sports cars, but also for its SUVs.
