CES in Las Vegas is a true festival of innovations, and this year, Lenovo surprises with a rollable screen laptop that defies convention: the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable. We were able to approach this futuristic machine that the brand plans to market later this year.

Lenovo is not its first attempt at folding and rollable screens, but with this ThinkBook, the idea is finally taking shape. Imagine a classic laptop that, with a simple press of a key or a gesture in front of the webcam, sees its screen stretch upwards as if by magic.

From 14 to 16.7 inches in the blink of an eye

The ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable looks at first glance like a classic business laptop with its 14-inch screen (2000 x 1600 pixels) in a slightly square format. But press the dedicated button, and the motors integrated into the screen activate to deploy it in around ten seconds. Here you are with a display area of 16.7 inches (2000 x 2350 pixels), a gain of around 50%. Lenovo assures that the hinge can withstand at least 30,000 opening and closing cycles, while the flexible display is rated for 20,000 rolling and unrolling cycles.

Despite its flexible screen and roll-up mechanism, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable maintains a reasonable weight of around 1.7 kg (for the base configuration). Obviously, it’s a little thicker than a 14-inch MacBook Pro (around 2 cm versus 1.55 cm), but that’s the price to pay for this innovation. In fact, part of the screen slides under the keyboard.

OLED, Intel Core Ultra et IA au programme

The flexible OLED display offers 400 nits of brightness. Performance-wise, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable can be configured with an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series processor, up to 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD of storage. The battery has a capacity of 65 Whr and the connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and Wi-Fi 7. Lenovo also integrates AI functions, such as Lenovo AI Now and Copilot +, which promise to improve productivity and creativity.

Once unfolded, the Lenovo PC can even function as a “dual screen” by offering the possibility of displaying a document on one side and a PowerPoint presentation on the other. It is also possible to display a YouTube video on the upper part and work in the lower area. The possibilities are diverse and varied with this additional poster area.

A price that targets professionals

Available in a few months starting at $3,499, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable is primarily intended for professionals. Its high price and features can make it an attractive tool for developers, graphic designers, financial analysts, and anyone who needs a larger, more flexible workspace. In Europe, it should start at 2,799 euros excluding taxes for professionals.
