ENVISION, these augmented reality binoculars, developed in partnership with the optical giant Nikon, promise to radically transform the way we observe the stars and nature.
Rewarded with a CES 2025 Innovation Award in the XR (Extended Reality) category, the ENVISION are already the sensation of the Las Vegas show which has just opened its doors. Especially since this is not the first time that Unistellar has stood out at CES. As Laurent Marfisi, CEO and co-founder of the French company, points out: “We are naturally very proud to receive the 3rd CES Innovation Award in Unistellar history.” This recognition by a panel of innovation experts crowns the success already encountered with the public during the crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, which raised the impressive sum of 2.7 million dollars.
An enriched observation experience
ENVISION binoculars are distinguished by their combination of high optical quality and advanced augmented reality features. Equipped with Nikon optics, they offer 10x magnification with 50mm diameter objectives. Connected to a smartphone and equipped with an application linked to an exhaustive database, they allow various information to be superimposed in the user's field of vision.
For hiking enthusiasts, ENVISION offers the ability to read terrain, identify trails and landmarks, including mountains, paths and rivers. Binoculars can even point out water sources, a particularly useful feature for adventurers. The terrestrial database contains more than a million mountains, hills and peaks, as well as hundreds of thousands of trails, shelters, water sources and caves.
Astronomy enthusiasts are not left out. ENVISION helps reveal the treasures of the night sky by recognizing more than 200,000 stars. The augmented reality system can identify approximately 1,000 celestial objects, making stargazing more accessible and rewarding for beginners and amateur astronomers alike.
ENVISION offers several modes of use to adapt to different needs:
- The “Smart Scouting Mode” displays a superimposed 3D map and enriches the observation with landmarks and details, day and night.
- “Guided Navigation Mode” guides the user to selected points of interest using vectors in the field of view.
- “Shareable Target-Lock Mode” allows you to lock a target to share it and guide other users.
- The “Advanced Compass” displays real-time altitude and azimuth, with detailed information about the target object.
Note that for purists, it is also possible to deactivate augmented reality and use ENVISION as classic optical binoculars.
Availability and price
ENVISION's battery life is approximately 5 hours of continuous use with augmented reality enabled. Unistellar promises regular firmware and app updates to improve features at no additional cost.
In terms of price, ENVISION positions itself as a more affordable alternative in the smart binoculars market. With an expected retail price of 1449 euros, they are significantly less expensive than the Swarovski AX Visio binoculars, which sell for 4600 euros. Reductions are available for buyers on Kickstarter and Indigogo from 868 euros.
