The revival of LG Gram laptops
On the eve of CES 2025, the famous electronics brand LG is getting a makeover with the launch of new models of its Gram laptops. Ten years after the launch of this range of light and thin laptops, LG is back in force with models enriched with powerful artificial intelligence (AI) features and increased performance while maintaining their iconic portability.
The new models in detail
Four new models are being launched by LG at CES: two variants of the Gram Pro, a new Gram Pro 2-in-1 and the entry-level Gram Book model. “The first model of the Gram Pro is equipped with an Intel Core H (Arrow Lake) processor for traditional laptop tasks, including some gaming. A second model uses an Intel Core Ultra V (Lunar Lake) chip for AI tasks. »
Additionally, the latter is a Microsoft Copilot+ PC with all the AI features expected of this line, including Recall, Live Captions, Cocreator, and Windows Studio Effects. Even if you don’t choose the Copilot+ variant, you’ll still get LG’s AI features in most of the new models (all except the Gram Book).
Innovative AI features
AI capabilities are divided into two categories: AI tasks processed on the device and those processed in the cloud. Among the features on the device is a lightweight chatbot derived from LG’s EXAONE broad language model. It also includes LG’s Time Travel functionality, similar to Microsoft’s Recall, which allows you to find web pages, documents, videos and audio files that you have viewed or used.
-Cloud-based AI features include Gram Chat Cloud, a more robust chatbot (powered by GPT-4o) that can integrate with your calendar and email services.
Optimized performance and portability
The Gram Pro offers a 17-inch (Arrow Lake) or 16-inch (Lunar Lake) screen with a 2560 x 1600 LCD. Its variable refresh rate maxes out at 144Hz. Both variants have a storage capacity of up to 2TB and 32GB of RAM. “The Arrow Lake model should be a solid gaming laptop with RTX 4050 graphics. The AI/Lunar Lake model only has Intel integrated graphics. But at least the latter is lighter and thinner, weighing 2.73 pounds compared to 3.26 pounds for the Arrow Lake model. »
Finally, the Gram Book is the entry-level model that LG is launching to “expand its presence in the American market”. Unfortunately, LG has not yet announced any information on pricing or release dates for these new laptops.
