The President of the Republic decided, during the Olympic and Paralympic Council on July 25, 2022, to make the Great National Cause 2024 the very first, in 46 years, dedicated to the promotion of Physical and Sports Activity. An ambition carried on a national scale to place sport at the heart of our society by pursuing 3 objectives:
- Encourage French people, at all ages and in all territories, to do more physical and sporting activity
- Mobilize sports stakeholders and all the country’s driving forces to promote the place of sport in our society
- Putting sport at the heart of our public policies, interministeriality and the republican pact
Today, more than 2 in 3 French people practice a sporting activity (68%), an increase of 14 points in 12 years. The time devoted to sport by the French has doubled. To analyze these changes, a barometer[1] is backed by this Great National Cause and delivers its results to us every month.
The major impact sought by the Great National Cause for sport is the modification of the daily habits of the French to integrate more physical activities: the 30 minutes!
This operation, like the 5 fruits and vegetables per day, seems to be spreading massively thanks to national campaigns around the message “move 30 minutes every day”.
The GCN materialized by:
- 3,000 events in mainland France and overseas
- 60 action programs throughout France
- 100 partnerships mobilizing many of the country’s vital forces
- 80 videos and short programs to encourage the French to get moving.
ANDES will have been able to contribute to this movement by mobilizing for the success of ambitious projects:
-
The Great Dictation of Sport
-
The Heritage Lottery
-
Sports action in the heart of the Villages
-
Days for a fit France
-
Support for programs such as Olympic and Paralympic Week, Olympic Days, the Inclusive Club program, etc.
ANDES’ commitment was also demonstrated by its management of the AAP Fresques Sportives, making it possible to finance 50 projects of all sizes in towns with 460 to 172,000 inhabitants! This initiative continues, today in the Fresco Competition, the results of the grand final of which will be announced during the ANDES Congress in Limoges, on May 15 & 16.

The priority given to sport must not disappear on December 31, 2024. Let us leave room for the year 2025 to the Great National Cause of mental health, for which physical activity must take its full place. ANDES will remain mobilized to respond collectively to these challenges.
