Thanks to the generosity of donors, the University of Montreal recently awarded 166 excellence scholarships, worth $1,085,100, to graduate students. These grants represent much more than simple financial support: they are real springboards for the beneficiaries, who embody the future of research.
“Financial support during graduate studies is an essential condition for the optimal progress of our students’ journey. The University of Montreal, its faculties, its departments and its teaching staff offer various scholarships to the student community as well as paid teaching and research assistantships. Provincial and federal granting agencies also award a certain number of scholarships. The financial needs are, however, much greater than the support available,” recalled Julie Carrier, associate vice-rector for graduate and postdoctoral studies.
This philanthropic contribution intended for the student community allows exceptional young talents to continue their training while contributing to their success. Not only is financial support for graduate studies a determining component of student success, but it benefits all of society through the impact of the research work it helps to finance.
