Sharing a message or media from WhatsApp to another application is an obstacle course, but a new feature will correct this weakness.
WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging applications in the world, even replacing traditional SMS (or RCS now) for many users. But its pace of updates is less sustained than some of its competitors, like Telegram or Signal, so that WhatsApp still suffers from disturbing flaws that have already been corrected on other platforms.
The app will take a step forward soon, with a new external sharing functionality which will be of great service to us. This was spotted on WhatsApp beta version 2.24.25.20 by WABetaInfoand we hope it comes to all users soon. In the meantime, here’s what we know about how it works.
WhatsApp will let us share content with Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat…
If WhatsApp allows you to transfer messages and content between conversations and share them on channels hosted by the app, it is however much less practical to share messages and media through other applications. Generally, users will take a screenshot or upload a photo or video to share it on another platform, which is really not practical and wastes a lot of time.
Those days will soon be over. As you can see in the screenshot below, WhatsApp is working on a new bottom bar that aims to make it easier to share content with other apps. This appears when you want to transfer a message or media. As usual, you have the option to send it in another WhatsApp chat, but you can now also choose to share it in a third-party app: in Instagram story, on Facebook, on X (Twitter), on Snapchat or other platforms.
The feature should be rolled out in the coming weeks via an update. For users who are used to sharing messages or media between messaging applications, it will significantly improve the daily experience.
