A mystery emerged on ChatGPT where some users noticed that the chatbot was unable to pronounce the name of a certain “David Mayer”.
After the affair of “slop”, these incoherent responses generated by artificial intelligence, a new mystery emerges on ChatGPT. Users on Reddit noticed that the chatbot seemed unable to pronounce David Mayer’s name, which raised questions about his identity as reported USA Today.
Several hypotheses on the table
The simplest hypothesis would be to say that it is neither more nor less an error on the part of the chatbot, the other is provided by Justine Moore, specialized in investing in AI companies, who indicates on X (Twitter) that this famous “David Mayer” could have exercised his “right to be forgotten” on the internet, thus carefully erasing his traces.
In Europe, the GDPR allows you to exercise this famous right “allowing individuals to ask organizations to delete their personal data”.
In late November, when you asked ChatGPT about David Mayer, the chatbot found itself in trouble and simply couldn’t generate a response no matter how it was asked, as seen in this screenshot:
Today, the query appears to have been fixed, with ChatGPT aware of the mystery itself:
Among these hypotheses, the right to be forgotten appears to be the most relevant solution in this context. In a list recently published by Justine Moore, which lists a new series of names capable of crashing ChatGPT, the last name mentioned, for example, explicitly made a request for the right to be forgotten.
