Death Clock: an app to know your date of death via AI

“There is probably no more important date in your life than the day you are going to die,” says Brent Franson, the creator of the Death Clock app. Since its launch in July 2024, this app has already been downloaded more than 125,000 times, according to Sensor Tower, although it requires an in-app purchase (10 francs for a one-month subscription; 40 to 100 francs for one one-year subscription) to benefit from the services of its AI. This claims to establish the date of your death precisely, reports Bloomberg.

To make this prediction and launch a personalized countdown to the last breath of life, the service is based on the user’s personal data. The app asks you to enter your date of birth and answer a questionnaire on your eating habits, physical activity, quality of sleep and stress level. To calculate the fateful date, the AI trained on a vast dataset: 1,200 studies on life expectancy bringing together information from more than 53 million participants.

Despite its morbid aspect, the aim of the platform is in reality to give advice to improve the user’s lifestyle, and at the same time to delay their macabre deadline.

According to its designer, the application could go even further by being useful to governments, insurers and businesses. The data it provides on life expectancy would make it possible to improve financial planning tools, life insurance calculations or retirement program forecasts, by offering more personalized estimates than current averages, which are “quite far from reality”, according to Brent Franson.
